Railfanning a blast in Indiana: A Heritage Locomotive, Snow, and a friend make for blast weekend !

As if the almost non-stop exhilaration of non-stop trains in Indiana on NS' Chicago Line isn't enough, there's the little things that make the icing on the cake of a special weekend. When you add a friend who's also a train junkie in need of the same train fix, especially NS train fix, it makes a memorable, blast of a weekend! The two of you will have continuous fun, and you'll hate to leave until you "see that one last train," and "that last train", and "this last train." Well, this weekend was just a dream for me and my friend Chris, a simple railfan, like me.

Chris' trainfaning (railfanning) consists of writing down the trains he sees in a notebook and shooting a video with his phone while in his car. That's his thing, and we all have our things when is comes to trains. In a about a day and a half in Porter-Chesterton, he recorded 52 trains!

NS Heritage Locomotive: The Interstate. The Interstate Railroad still operates in the southwestern part of Virginia as a subsidiary of Norfolk Southern.

NS 8105 leading through Chesterton on 1-7-24 (reports).

Saturday night we saw action at the crossing near Thomas Centennial Park, where the freight trains would stop throughout the day to wait for the passage of Amtraks. One train had a long stop, and a member of a train's crew took some of his time to have a chat with us, mainly my friend, who was interested in DPUs (the power added to a train by locomotives). I have great respect for American railroaders, they provide a valued to our Country's economy, and thanking a railroader in person is something that's always on my bucket list.

A Sunday morning cover of snow made for some great snow scenes. We headed out to the crossing on the west side of Porter, where there is a more rural setting. With a church service streaming we shot several trains in the winter weather. It was a nice cap to a wonderfully fun filled weekend.
